Topic: Designing for Diversity
Date: Monday, May 12, 2014
Time:
6:00 – 6:30 pm: Networking
6:30 – 8:00 pm: Business Meeting / Program
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Designing effective elearning is never a simple prospect. Different individuals learn differently, and the designer needs to account for this variation in every choice they make. One area of difference that has stepped into the spotlight in recent years is generational preference. With up to four generations all together in the workplace for perhaps the first time in history, more attention is being paid than ever before to the fundamental role a learner’s generational identification plays in determining how he or she prefers to learn.
This session will provide a basic framework for understanding the connection of generational preference to learning, and provide practical examples of applying those preferences to the task of designing compelling, effective elearning that is capable of bridging the often daunting generational divide.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Aaron Kesher brings a great deal of energy and a necessary sense of humor to the discussion around difference. He comes from a background in education, having taught English and Theater to high school students in both inner-city and suburban schools. A certified Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Administrator, his training work has centered on issues of diversity, with a special focus on working and managing across differences. He has authored articles for diversity-centered websites and newsletters, including co-authoring a manager’s toolkit for dealing with religious diversity in the workplace, as well as several workshops on both leading and working across generational difference. When not at work, Aaron can often be found fighting light saber battles with his three boys in the back yard of their New Hope, Minnesota, home. He rarely wins.
